A Community-First Approach

Stanford Medicine is planning a new cancer center in Redwood City, and we are committed to ensuring it serves and reflects the community it will call home. This starts with listening.

Our "Community-First" approach is built on open dialogue. Over the past year, we have been actively engaging with neighbors, community leaders, and local organizations to ensure our plans resonate with community interests, address concerns, and advance a shared vision for the future of cancer care. By working together, we can build a center that reimagines cancer research and care while strengthening our role as a good neighbor.

Your voice is a crucial part of this process. Here’s how you can get involved:

Open Office Hours 

The Stanford Medicine Cancer Center: Redwood City Vision team looks forward to hosting twice monthly open office hours at Cardinal Hall in Redwood City to gather feedback, share details on the updated project, and discuss how the cancer center can support the community.  

Please stop by and connect with Lucy Wicks and Christie Ochoa (habla español) to share your thoughts and questions.  Office hours will be held at Cardinal Cafe dining pavilion, located at 505 Broadway, Redwood City, CA 94063: 

Second Tuesday of each month: 4:00–6:00 p.m., through March 2027

Third Friday of each month: 11:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m., through March 2027

Public parking will be available in Baron Garage with payment through ParkMobile.  

Community Workshops 

You’re invited to share your thoughts and feedback on topics that are important to you as Stanford Medicine advances ideas for community priorities and investments related to the updated project.

Please note the new dates and times for these workshops:

Thursday, November 12, 2026 / 5:30 – 7:30 p.m.

Saturday, November 14, 2026 / 10:00 – 11:30 a.m.

Following refreshments and a brief presentation, we will host focused small group discussions on topics important to you and explore community questions and preferences. Bring your neighbors and friends! All are welcome, as we want to hear from the broader community. Spanish translation services will be available.

Community Webinar

We shared updated project information, maps, and renderings with community members virtually through a community webinar in early June ahead of the updated project details submittal to the City.

Community Open Houses

Stanford Medicine hosted two sets of community open houses in October 2025 and February 2026 for residents of Redwood City, North Fair Oaks, and the surrounding region. We met with community members to share information about a potential cancer center in Redwood City and sought input to help Stanford Medicine develop an updated project that is informed by the community’s early input and interests.
