Timeline & Process
The Path Forward: Redwood City’s Review Process
In 2013, the City of Redwood City and Stanford University, in collaboration with local neighbors and San Mateo County stakeholders, created the Stanford in Redwood City Precise Plan.
More than a decade later, Stanford Medicine is proposing to evolve that shared vision to address the growing need for cancer care. The proposal involves building a new, state-of-the-art cancer center on a portion of the campus already envisioned for Stanford uses.
To enable the construction of the new center, Stanford has proposed a collaborative process with the City to amend two key planning documents:
- The General Plan: An amendment is required to allow for the proposed cancer center; this includes updating the current land use designation to "Hospital."
- The Stanford in Redwood City Precise Plan: Amendments are required to allow for the specific mix of land uses proposed, as well as to enable greater building height and density. Development standards and urban design guidelines would be modified as needed to enable the updated project.
